I stop and think what my life
would be without Scouting. Not only as a youth, but as an adult with my three
Eagle Scout sons.
Scouting taught me at a young
age to be independent, resourceful and prepared: thinking, planning and
anticipating what my next endeavor would be in school, athletics, and scouting.
It took me from my troop, to forming an Explorer Post, to becoming OA
Lodge Chief to earning my Eagle Scout rank. Scouting was an easy springboard to college, ROTC and a junior military
officer.
Many years later, a dad of three boys, and yes…back into Scouting. A quick
deployment leading soldiers in a foreign land and then back to my family and my time as a Troop Scoutmaster.
Now I am able to impart all that scouting taught me to not
only my three boys, but to a troop of scouts. My boys all become Eagle Scouts,
4th generation in Lake Eric Council.
Looking back, I am internally
grateful to scouting and the volunteers and professional staff who gave me the
opportunity to build a life of honor and service. Looking forward, our country
needs resolute young men and women to lead our country into the future. I
believe in the mission of Scouts BSA and urge everyone to support this noble
organization now and into the future.
